FEMA’s ICS-200, "Basic Incident Command System for Initial Response", provides training for personnel to operate efficiently during incident management, specifically for supervisory roles in small-scale, single-resource incidents. The course focuses on NIMS compliance, delegation of authority, management by objectives, and organizational structure. 

Key Course Details

  • Name: IS-200.C: Basic Incident Command System for Initial Response.
  • Prerequisite: Recommended completion of IS-100.C (Introduction to ICS).
  • Target Audience: Personnel who may serve as supervisors, including emergency management, fire, law enforcement, and public health responders. 

Learning Objectives
By the end of this course, participants should be able to: 

  • Describe the Incident Command System (ICS) and National Incident Management System (NIMS) principles.
  • Understand the role of Command Staff and General Staff.
  • Apply delegation of authority and management by objectives.
  • Explain how to manage resources, including organizing for an incident, tracking, and reporting.
  • Understand the process of transferring command. 

Course Topics
The curriculum covers the following core areas:

  • Leadership & Management: Implementing ICS for small-scale, all-hazard incidents.
  • ICS Organization: Structure, facilities, and functional areas.
  • Operational Procedures: Briefings, meetings, and the transfer of command.
  • Resource Management: Effective management during incident operations
